It is now easy to give in to poor lifestyle choices during quarantine. Beautiful, Netflix banging and lack of physical activity is always a temptation. This is a situation where we may think that we will finally reach it or that we can always start tomorrow. I think we could put a twist on this and take the opportunity to look in depth at the habits of being at home.
When we come to the gym, we know we're going in and out in about an hour. We have the beginning and the end of training. The truth is, you still have about 12 hours or more a day! We can only see you all for about an hour a day, but the rest of our lives take place at work and at home. We may not fully acknowledge some habits that have developed at home. While watching TV, it's easy to sit and eat snacks and maybe eat a whole bag of chips. It is difficult to keep track of all the snacks in the house with children and grandchildren. And if you’re a craft beer lover like me, it’s always tempting to try a brand new IPA on the shelf!
All these obstacles can hinder the achievement of health or quality of life goals. So, I suggest that we all review what we have done during this time. Think about your goals and see if you are still working healthily for them. Spending so much time at home gives us a unique opportunity to see what we do when we feel like being indoors. Have we eaten more? What foods did we buy to buy stocks? Have you cooked more? What ingredients have you chosen? Have we eaten late night snacks? How many times a week do we train? All of these questions are the starting point for analyzing what we do at home.
For me, habits or rituals help control myself. I have a morning routine that includes drinking my greens and taking fish oil first in the morning. After doing this for so long, I don't really have to think about it anymore, it just happens out of habit. That's the key. Determine times or actions for actions and continue the process until it becomes second nature. I have designated days when I know I'm going to workout.
This usually happens when I get dressed for training. Due to quarantine, my new mental figure takes up my amino energy. When I do that, I know I'm going to work out. However, when I go shopping, I make sure I don't go out on an empty stomach. I also carry around a food schedule made by Justin to help remind me of what I should buy. Buying a mid to upper tier is positive for me!
